Savviest Girl’s mission is to be a resource tool and inspiration for young adults regarding all aspects of money. My goal is to share with the readers the best MONEY SAVING AND MONEY MAKING “GOSSIP” I can find!
I’m Jennifer and that’s my husband Brian. At the young age of 34, we’ve been through a lifetime of experiences since we started dating at the age of 19 (we’ve known each other since 4th grade) and married at 26. I’ve been very successful at spending money, but now I’m learning how to save money!
I’ve noticed so many money saving blogs focused on “moms”, but I realized there weren’t many blogs focusing on young adults saving money (and making money, too). I considered started this blog last year, but life had other plans in the form of a new baby. While I value deals related to kids, I won’t be sharing them here! Hopefully, I’ll have another blog for that someday!
A little bit of history . . .
I always enjoyed finding great deals! When I was young, my mom had me add up the receipts to show my dad what we would have spent vs. what we did spend (on clothes).
I worked a little through high school and then when I started college I worked part-time as a file clerk at a law firm.
At 20, I was a real estate agent, an unorthodox job for a junior in college! Brian’s mother owned the real estate company, and we worked there about 40 hours a week while we went to school. Brian is an airline pilot now, but right around that time he decided to quit school and take a job flying night cargo which proved to be a great decision. Later, he would get another job as a captain flying private jets.
Ebay changed our lives. We started an Ebay business in January 2000 and it was more successful than we ever imagined. While we still have it going today, it is not nearly as lucrative. Around this time, I left real estate and used my degree as an elementary teacher for five years.
In 2003, we married and moved from Northeastern, Pennslvania to South Carolina. Ebay provided a second income so we were blessed in 2004 when our first child was born and I was able to be a stay at home mom.
We rode out the real estate market and made money, but it did not leave us unscathed. A poor investment and a house underwater (even with 20% down) were not what we expected. In 2008, I held our third child in my arms and watched the stock market and the economy plummeted. I knew I had do figure out how to save money. So I researched and learned how to coupon and various other ways to save money. It’s really not rocket science, it’s just planning and patience!
A job offer as a second grade teacher in a private school had us looking forward to having a second third income and maybe having some wiggle room. Seriously, there weren’t too many job offers on this island in 2010! Then, I found out I was pregnant again. Our sweet Caroline joined us that November and made me realize that maybe my idea for this blog (and not the teaching job) was meant to be.
Savviest Girl, LLC was started in December 2010. My education degree, job experiences and life experiences all contribute to my passion for this blog! I hope to share what I have learned (and continue to learn) about saving and making money. Welcome!
